Setting up with Highlight
This MCP is not yet compatible with Highlight’s one-click setup. However, you can still use it with Highlight by following these steps:
- Download and install Highlight from highlightai.com/download
- Navigate to the plugins tab and select "Add Custom Plugin"

From the repository
Install via npm or Smithery, configure your AviationStack API key as the environment variable AVIATIONSTACK_API_KEY, and add the server to your MCP settings file (e.g., cline_mcp_settings.json for Claude VSCode or claude_desktop_config.json for the Claude desktop app). Once running, you can ask Claude to look up flight status, search flights, or fetch detailed flight information.

This MCP server provides three main tools:
- get_flight_data: Get detailed information about a specific flight by its IATA or ICAO code
- search_flights: Search for flights by various criteria like airline, departure/arrival airports, and status
- get_flight_status: Get a human-readable status summary for a specific flight
To install flightradar-mcp-server for Claude Desktop automatically viaSmithery:

- An AviationStack API key (get one ataviationstack.com)

This server requires an AviationStack API key to function. You can get a free API key (100 requests/month) ataviationstack.com.
The API key should be provided as an environment variable namedAVIATIONSTACK_API_KEYin your MCP settings configuration.
