Setting up with Highlight

This MCP is not yet compatible with Highlight’s one-click setup. However, you can still use it with Highlight by following these steps:

Download and install Highlight from highlightai.com/download
Navigate to the plugins tab and select "Add Custom Plugin"
Configure the plugin with the settings below

Plugin Name Todoist MCP Server (Python)

Command (node, npx, python, etc.)

Please refer to the README for specific instructions on how to obtain API keys or other required environment variables.
Enable "Start Automatically" if you want the plugin to start when Highlight launches

Setting up with Cursor

Open Cursor's settings
Navigate to the MCP section
Click "Add new Global MCP server"

From the repository

Install Python 3.10+ and UV package manager, obtain a Todoist API token from your account settings (Settings → Integrations → Developer), then configure your MCP client (e.g., Claude Desktop) by adding the server entry to claude_desktop_config.json with the absolute path to the server directory and the token as an environment variable.

Todoist MCP Server (Python)

This is a Python port of this TypeScript Todoist MCP server. The port was created with Claude to provide the same functionality while leveraging the Python MCP SDK and Todoist Python API.

Getting a Todoist API Token

1. Log in to your Todoist account
2. Go to Settings → Integrations
3. Find your API token under "Developer"
