What "installing" Plainpaper actually means
You don't download anything. In Claude, a tool like Plainpaper is aconnector, a secure link between your chat and the service. From then on, Claude can open a Plainpaper board and write campaign cards onto it whenever you ask, without you leaving the conversation.
One difference from Canva or Notion, and it's worth being straight about: Plainpaper isn't in Claude's browsable connector directory yet, so you add it as acustom connectorinstead of finding it in a list. In practice that means pasting one URL. Everything after that, the sign-in and the approval, is the standard flow, and the connector behaves identically to a directory one once it's on.
The whole thing takes about three minutes, and most of that is the one-time sign-in. Below is every step, in order.
A one-click listing is on the way. We're working on getting Plainpaper into Claude's connector directory, at which point this page gets shorter. Until then the URL below does the same job.
Before you start. You'll need a Claude plan that supports connectors (Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise) and a Plainpaper account (free to create when you connect, and it starts on a 7-day trial). On Team and Enterprise, an admin may need to switch the Plainpaper connector on for your workspace first.
Three stages: add the URL, authorize it, switch it on in a chat. Each one is a couple of clicks.
Open Connectors in Claude's settings
Onclaude.ai, click your name in the bottom-left, chooseSettings, then open theConnectorstab. InClaude Desktop, it'sSettings → Connectorsas well. This is the screen that lists every tool Claude can reach.
No Connectors tab? That usually means your plan doesn't include connectors yet, or, on Team and Enterprise, an admin hasn't enabled them. Free and some legacy plans won't show it.
Scroll to the bottom of the Connectors screen and clickAdd custom connector. Plainpaper isn't in Claude's browsable directory yet, so this is the route in. It's the same connector either way: the directory listing is a shortcut, not a different product.
Coming to the directory. We're working with Anthropic on getting Plainpaper listed as a one-click connector. Until that lands, pasting one URL is the whole difference, and connectors you add this way work exactly like directory ones.
Claude asks for the connector's address. Paste this in and confirm:
That's the only thing you have to type or copy in this entire guide. You can leave every other field on that dialog alone.
You stay in control of what ships. The connector lets Claude draft on the board, not send on your behalf. Approval of emails and ad creative always happens on the board, and the real sending runs through each tool's own connector.
You're returned to the Connectors screen, and Plainpaper now sits in your list with aConnectedlabel. That's the install done. Plainpaper is wired to your Claude account.
Connecting a tool makes itavailable; each chat decides which connectors areactive. Open a new conversation, click thesearch-and-tools menunear the message box, and make sure Plainpaper is toggled on. Now Claude can use it here.
Ask Claude to start something. It opens a Plainpaper board and begins writing cards onto it. You'll see the board fill in as it works.

Done. Opened a board and added your first cards. plainpaper · create_board plainpaper · add_card Take a look. The audience and brief are ready for review.
What you'd see:Claude calls the Plainpaper connector to create the board and add cards. They appear on the canvas in real time, ready for you to review.
Don't have a Plainpaper account yet?
Start a 7-day free trial, no credit card, and the connector has a board to write to in a couple of minutes.
- No "Connectors" tab in Settings.Your plan likely doesn't include connectors, or an admin hasn't enabled them. Connectors are a Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise feature.
- You can't find Plainpaper in the connector list. You won't: it isn't in Claude's browsable directory yet. Scroll to the bottom ofSettings → Connectorsand useAdd custom connectorinstead.
- Claude rejects the URL.It needs the full address including the trailing slash:https://mcp.plainpaper.io/mcp/. On Team and Enterprise, an admin may also need to allow custom connectors for the workspace.
- Claude says it can't reach Plainpaper.Open the search-and-tools menu in your chat and confirm Plainpaper is toggled on for that conversation. Connecting it in Settings isn't the same as enabling it in a chat.
- The authorize window closed without connecting.Pop-up blockers can interrupt the OAuth step. Allow pop-ups for Claude, then clickConnectagain.
- You want to start over.InSettings → Connectors, chooseDisconnecton Plainpaper, then add it again with the same URL.
With the connector live, the board becomes Claude's workspace. A few first things worth asking for:
- Start from a playbook.Ask Claude to open a board from the Ecommerce or Product Launch playbook so the phases and starter cards are already in place.
- Draft an audience and a brief.Give it the goal and the offer in plain language; it lays each one out as a typed card you can correct.
- Approve before anything ships.Emails and ad creative land on the board for your sign-off. Claude only pushes them out through each destination's own connector after you approve.
Not in the connector directory, yet. Plainpaper isn't listed there at the moment, so you add it yourself: openSettings → Connectors, clickAdd custom connectorat the bottom, and pastehttps://mcp.plainpaper.io/mcp/. Then clickConnectand approve access. We're working on a one-click listing so this step goes away.
Do I need a paid Claude plan to use connectors?
Yes. Connectors, custom ones included, are available on Claude's Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. On Team and Enterprise, an admin may need to allow custom connectors for the workspace before you can add one.
Is it safe to connect Plainpaper to Claude?
Why don't I see Plainpaper in my chat after connecting?
Connecting a tool in Settings makes it available, but each chat decides which connectors are on. Open the search-and-tools menu near the message box and switch Plainpaper on for that conversation. If it's still missing, refresh or start a new chat.
Does Plainpaper send my emails or post my ads?
No. Plainpaper is the canvas where Claude drafts and you approve. It holds the plan and the assets, not your sending credentials. Claude pushes approved work out through each destination's own connector (Mailchimp, Meta, your ESP), never from Plainpaper.
How do I remove or disconnect Plainpaper?
OpenSettings → Connectors, find Plainpaper, and chooseDisconnect. That revokes Claude's access immediately. You can add it again with the same URL whenever you want.
Yes, and the same account and boards carry across. ChatGPT keeps custom MCP servers behind developer mode, so it is a slightly longer setup:install Plainpaper in ChatGPT. Cursor, Claude Code, and anything else that speaks MCP are covered inconnect your agent.
The connector is only half the setup. It needs a Plainpaper board to write to. Every Plainpaper account starts with a 7-day free trial, no credit card, so your next campaign can start on a canvas your agent fills in for you.
- Plainpaper vs a blank chat, a whiteboard or a doc: what each one does well, and where each drops the campaign.
- The playbook library: ready-made boards, so the first thing you point Claude at is not a blank canvas.
- Plainpaper quickstart: account to first agent-built board in about ten minutes.
- Set up your first campaign: brief to approved email, step by step, with the prompts.
- The Claude marketing workflow: what to actually run once the connector is in.
- The marketing tools gallery: the other connectors worth adding, screened the same way.
- Install Plainpaper in ChatGPT: the same board, if you use ChatGPT too.
