Setting up with Highlight

This MCP is not yet compatible with Highlight’s one-click setup. However, you can still use it with Highlight by following these steps:

  1. Download and install Highlight from highlightai.com/download
  2. Navigate to the plugins tab and select "Add Custom Plugin"
  3. Configure the plugin with the settings below
    Plugin Name AI Music Co-Producer for REAPER DAW
    Command (node, npx, python, etc.)

    Please refer to the README for specific instructions on how to obtain API keys or other required environment variables.

  4. Enable "Start Automatically" if you want the plugin to start when Highlight launches

From the repository

Clone the repository, install uv, create a virtual environment, and install dependencies with uv pip install -r requirements.txt. Then add the MCP server to your preferred LLM application that supports MCP protocol, start REAPER and open your project, and start the MCP server from your LLM application.

Prerequisites

- REAPER DAW (64-bit version)
- Python 3.x

Installation

1. Clone this repository:

git clone https://github.com/Aavishkar-Kolte/reaper-daw-mcp-server
cd ai-music-coproducer

2. Install uv (if not already installed):

pip install uv

3. Create and activate a virtual environment using uv:

uv venv
source .venv/bin/activate # On Windows: .venv\Scripts\activate

4. Install dependencies using uv:

uv pip install -r requirements.txt

Usage

1. Add the MCP server to your preferred LLM application that supports MCP protocol
2. Start REAPER DAW and open your project
3. Start the MCP server from your LLM application:
